Service Description
Slow down and nurture your creativity by spending two days immersed in natural colour, pattern and the peaceful rural surroundings of Project Workshops deep in Test Valley countryside, Hampshire. A two day course where you will play and explore through gentle encouragement, whilst enjoying refreshments, homemade cake and a tasty vegetarian lunch. Join Textile Artists Lucy Pick and Sharon Kearley for this two day creative approach to natural dyeing and weaving. They will share their expertise and knowledge, with examples of their work, inspiring books, photos, wood blocks for you to delve into, all set in the warm and welcoming creative space that is Sharon’s weave studio. On the first day Lucy will reflect and discuss our emotional connection to colour as humans, and how these help forge memories and mood, igniting our senses. She will share with your her knowledge of plants and natural dyes through examples, guiding you through the process of creating your own alchemy of dye baths, to produce a delightful palette of colours, hues and tones on wool and linen yarn and vintage cloth. Day two and a head full of colour, Sharon and Lucy will take you to wander the garden of the studios for inspiration in the shapes, patterns, textures and colours that can be found in nature. Sharon will then teach you how to interpret these elements into woven cloth using your dyed yarns and cloth from day 1. Working on four and eight shaft pre-dressed table looms, you will play with natural colour, texture and simple structures to create some really beautiful woven cloth. You may decide to weave samples or even a scarf or cushion - that will be your choice on the day. This course is primarily for those that may have no weaving experience, or considered intermediate level. However, if you are a knowledgeable weaver but interested in the course please do contact Sharon as you will not be turned away but provided with more complicated thread up and structures to push your knowledge through active experimentation. Should you have your own loom that you wish to bring then please in this instance contact Sharon to discuss your requirements and for draft plans for threading. All materials and supporting handouts will be provided. Lunch and refreshments are provided, free on-site parking available
