Textile Design Course – Dyed Papers

Service Description

This one-day course is full of playful experimentation, exploring the joy of dyeing papers. Expect colour, curiosity and plenty of “what happens if…?” moments. The course can be taken on its own or alongside Woven Papers as a two-day experience. When booked together there is a 10% discount, bringing the total to £180 for both days. The day unfolds in three gentle stages: Broad playful enquiry – asking “what happens if…?” Focused experimentation – responding to discoveries and those lovely “ooh, that’s nice!” moments Pinpointing your passion – creating a small series of beautiful, exquisite papers Unlike printing, dyeing penetrates the surface of the paper. During the day we explore how this quality can be developed through different papers and simple colour theory — blending, interaction, positive and negative space, chaos and calm. We’ll experiment with ways of manipulating surfaces to achieve interesting textural outcomes, and generally have a rather lovely time playing with colour. You will leave with three small folios of jewel-like sample papers, each with very different results. We’ll also talk about how these could move forward into your own creative practice — perhaps into sketchbooks, surfaces to print or draw on, framed pieces, or something entirely unexpected. This course is for people who like to ask questions. For those who love colour — and for those who feel a little intimidated by it. It’s open to all art, design and craft enthusiasts and I can almost guarantee it will spark ideas for what comes next. I encourage permission to play, and this is a course I truly love teaching.
