Service Description
13th – 16th July 10am – 4pm daily £400 (To pay in instalments please contact me) Beginners / Intermediate level Lunch and refreshments provided. Spaces are available for those wishing to attend with their own looms — please get in touch to discuss. Spend four summer days immersed in the quiet rhythm of the loom, exploring how colour and structure work together to transform cloth. This course offers an engaging and instructive way to deepen your understanding of weave structures while creating a beautiful technical sampler that will become a valuable reference in your weaving practice. Designed in your own chosen two-colour contrast, the finished cloth will also work perfectly as a soft woven scarf to wear long after the course has finished. Throughout the workshop you will develop a structured sampler that records a range of weave effects, creating a personal logbook in cloth that you can return to again and again as your weaving journey evolves. Participants will have autonomy in selecting and designing their own two contrasting colours, allowing you to see how colour interacts with different weave structures and creates pattern through the warp and weft. Across the four days we will move through the full weaving process together: Day 1 – Design development and draft planning Day 2 – Warping and dressing the loom Days 3 & 4 – Weaving your technical sampler During the weaving days you will explore a range of fundamental structures and colour-and-weave effects, including: Plain weave Hopsack (basket weave) 2/2 twill 1/3 twill Herringbone Dogtooth colour-and-weave effects Honeycomb By the end of the course you will have created: Your own woven technical sampler scarf A practical woven reference for future projects A deeper understanding of colour and weave relationships The confidence to continue exploring these structures in your own weaving practice This course is designed to support both newer and more experienced weavers, with plenty of guidance and time for exploration. This course may be particularly suited to you if you: would like to deepen your understanding of weave structures and colour interaction enjoy learning through sampling and exploration on the loom would like to create a woven reference cloth to support future projects
